Uralcryomash to design and produce innovative tank container

2 September 2014 (10:02)

September 2, 2014. Uralcryomash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) is planning to design and start producing on a serial scale a tank container with tank shell made of composite materials.

According to the corporation’s press service, these jobs are part of the company’s innovative project on the manufacturing of hi tech produce based on technologies meant for making polymeric composite materials-based containers. These containers can be used for transportation of corrosive substances and chemical and petrochemical products. The project is funded by the Russian Industry & Trade Ministry and by Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation.

‘Using the latest scientific and technological achievements, we intend to design and produce a container made from polymeric composite materials that will be resistant to aggressive agents as well as chemical and petrochemical products and will meet all the international intermodal freight forwarding standards,’ the company says.

The prospective advantage of the new tank containers is that they will be at least 20% lighter than their counterparts. What is more, the containers will retain all of their operational characteristics for at least fifteen years of use for transportation of corrosive substances and chemical and petrochemical products, depending on the type of cargo.

Uralcryomash expects to begin the industrial-scale production of these composite materials-based containers in 2016.
