August 22, 2014. The high-precision diesel engine machine department of ChTZ-Uraltrac (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation) is getting ready to launch a high-precision HEC500 five-axis machine made by the German company Starragheckert.

According to the corporation’s press service, the machine will be used for making parts and components that require very complicated processing such as turbine compressor wheels or the so-called vane wheels. Prior to this, parts used to be made with the help of the Czech machine MCU360. The parts were processed along four axes. The use of the new equipment will make it possible both to improve the quality of the product and reduce the time it takes to make it. It took MCU360 eight hours to turn a simple ingot into a vane wheel, while it takes HEC500 only six hours to do the same.

‘This is the tenth machine by Starragheckert that we have installed here, and the seventh HEC500 one. Unlike its counterparts, this new unit is the only one with five axes: the extra axis is ensured through an special movable platform that can both swing and turn around its axis,’ the press service says.

The representatives of the manufacturing company are now doing all the assembly and installation jobs at the enterprise. The new machine will reach its full capacity by mid-September.
