Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s head plant gets power station upgraded

August 11, 2014. Uralvagonzavod, the head plant of Uralvagonzavod Corporation, launched an upgrade of its heat and power station. The idea is to reduce energy spending by 20%. This upgrade is expected to be completed within three years; the project will cost 9bn RUR to implement, the corporation’s press service reports.

The upgrade of this power facility includes the reconstruction of power-generating units and grids, installation and launch of a new air-nitrogen plant, and, as a result, enhanced energy efficiency of all the production facilities. The enterprise means to create a single power center to control energy spending all over the plant. What is more, they are planning to set up a new gas turbine station with the capacity of 64 megawatts based on imported equipment.

Uralvagonzavod’s power station currently makes 70% of the energy the plant needs, with the rest supplied by Sverdlovenergo. Once the new project has been completed, the plant will be able to buy less energy from an outside supplier.

Uralvagonzavod’s heat and power station works along two directions: maintaining the production site running and supplying heat energy to Dzerzhinsky District of Nizhniy Tagil. Besides, the project of a new pump station is being designed for Pine Mountains District; the new station will increase the network water circulation, which will insure the system against heat energy shortage. A new mini-district might soon appear in Dzerzhinsky District, so the power station will be able to deliver heat energy there as well if necessary.

‘I hope the creation of a new, all-round power facilities upgrade program will let the company prove even more efficient on the machine-building market,’ says head of the station Andrei Galakhov.
