July 7, 2014. The free tank encyclopedia is going to become an information partner during the World of Tanks-inspired Ural Steel 2014 championship that will be held in Moscow in late September, Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s press service reports.
‘The subject matter the encyclopedia is centered around attracts plenty of attention not only on the part of tank industry historians but also on the part of innumerable fans of the globally renowned tank-employing online battle World of Tanks. This is exactly why Tankopedia is going to act as an information partner for the championship. Ural Steel, with prizes distributed by Uralvagonzavod Corporation, will be held for the fourth time this year. As a matter of fact, in 2013 the finals were played in Nizhniy Tagil during the International Munitions & Military Vehicles Exhibition RAE 2013,’ the company’s press service says.
Winners of the Ural Steel championships will become Russian ‘tank’ champions and will be awarded corporation prizes. In addition to the championship, gamers will also compete for prizes within social networks, through quizzes and contests on stage and on stream; there will also be plenty of souvenirs, including those from uvzshop.ru, and a meeting with the developers of the mega-popular game and representatives of Uralvagonzavod Corporation. The tank encyclopedia will keep track of the preparations for and coordination of Ural Steel 2014 and will organize its own round of quizzes based on the tank industry-related questions; prizes will be given out to the project’s most active contributors.
Now Tankopedia started out on Defender of the Fatherland’s Day this year and became a place where all the data on the history of tank-building worldwide get accumulated together. The resources currently hosts over 2,500 entries dedicated to both the tank industry and tank-related themes, songs, films, poetry, and so on. Uralvagonzavod Corporation, the leading tank manufacturer, is contributing to the encyclopedia archives. For one, the corporation’s armored vehicles museum in Nizhniy Tagil that hosts over 50,000 items (including archive documents, photographs, drawings, technical documentation) is now getting all the exhibits digitized so that they can be used in Tankopedia entries. The Wikipedia-modeled structure of the resource makes it possible to add or edit entries, and the most active entry writers get prizes from Uralvagonzavod Corporation.
