April 30, 2014. Two high-precision lathes manufactured by the Russian-Czech JV МТЕ-KOVOSVIT and fitted with Siemens numeric program control and software were installed at Mechanical Assembly Department 1 of Uralvagonzavod Corporation's head plant, the corporation's press service reports.
'The launch of up-to-date equipment is the first stage of a large-scale technical upgrades program for the department. The upgrades became necessary because of a major increase in the target production figures,' the message says.
Two MTE-KOVOSVIT machines will replace as many as six old, obsolete, and worn-out lathes. The new equipment is expected to increase production capacity and reduce waste losses. The new lathes will be used for turning and milling operations involving parts that are up to 250mm in diameter; they are suitable for making a wide range of products: flanges, rolls, barrels, and other products for the railway industry and special vehicles.
