March 21, 2014. Six new German high-precision Heckert units and Austrian WFL numerical program control units meant for making spare parts for up-to-date engines were recently installed at Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant (ChTZ., a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) advanced technologies production site, Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s press service reports.

‘These are the most advanced metal-cutting units available at the moment. This sort of equipment is used by the leading machine-building companies in the West and in Russia, companies that lead the way in technological and technical terms. For example, this machinery is used at BMW, Audi, and Mercedes factories and at other European enterprises,’ the press service says.

29 burnishing and turning and milling processing units have been assembled at ChTZ so far. This is nearly a half of all the new units that will have been installed at the plant by the end of 2015 and will replace 820 old machines. Thanks to this upgraded fleet of units, the company will master the production of over 400 new part types with high processing precision.

In fact, the company has already completed its project on engine production upgrades with the help of WFL. The Austrian firm delivered sets of the necessary machinery onto the plant in accordance with the contract.

‘Our cooperation began in 2008. When our Austrian partners delivered their first machine here, it was difficult for him fully to believe that our business ties might go this far, the Austrian firm’s manager Wilhelm Eihberger, who ran the company’s Russian branch, confessed. However, he said when he last visited the plant that he was completely satisfied with the job we did. The Austrian management is now considering Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant to be a big and serious partner,’ says the advanced technologies department’s deputy head Dmitri Dergalev.
