March 19, 2014. Uralvagonzavod and Nizhniy Tagil Blood Transfusion Station 3 coordinated Donor Day: the head plant of Uralvagonzavod Corporation supported the program run by Russia’s Health Ministry on large-scale voluntary blood donation in 2008-2014. The program is implemented with help from Russia’s Union of Machine-Builders. The blood was collected on the premises of the plant’s health unit located at Foundry Shop 7, the corporation’s press service says.

‘The last time Uralvagonzavod coordinated an event like this was 9 years ago. It was now decided to have such days on a regular basis. In 2014, we plan to have 900 workers donate their blood. 200 employees from the metallurgical, carriage-making, mechanical assembly, and other departments have already volunteered to do this. Some 90 liters of blood have been donated. This blood will be directed to patients from the municipal prenatal clinic, polyclinics, and children’s hospitals, to save the lives of women in labor, people undergoing complicated surgeries, and children in critical situations and vital need of blood transfusion,’ the press release says.

According to the blood station experts, Uralvagonzavod employees also donated their blood even before Donor Days were resumed at the plant. They proved the most active and suitable donors who made up 40% of all the donors in Nizhniy Tagil.

In addition to Uralvagonzavod, Donor Day was also coordinated at the corporation’s other member enterprises. In February, over 100 employees of Uraltransmash donated their blood at health unit at Production Site IV. The workers of Sanguis Blood Transfusion Station collected over 48 liters of blood.
