March 12, 2014. An electronic system called Windchill is now being launched at Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant (ChTZ). This innovation is meant for managing engineering data, for set-up and maintenance of design and preproduction planning, and for automation of the process of managing an item's parameters, Uralvagonzavod Corporation's press service says.

The employees of the plant's IT Center, headed by Lyudmila Filatenko, tuned in the system, worked through the operation routine, and converted their goods composition database from the traditional Omega into Windchill.

This rather time-consuming process took slightly over six months, so now all the drawings will be stored electronically.

'Since we started using Windchill, we have enjoyed the beauty of electronic document flow: every person who is assigned a task receives it through the system, fulfils it, and passes it on to their co-worker. All of the task executors have access to electronic versions of drawings; in the nearest future, 3D models will also become available. These 3D models are more convenient to use, as they present a better image that can more easily be conceived. Windchill's other advantage is that the plant's archives get cleared off an enormous amount of paper documents,' says the project manager Lyudmila Filatenko.
