560 Hectares Allocated for EXPO Park in Yekaterinburg

April 2, 2013. In case Yekaterinburg wins the right to host the EXPO 2020 exhibition, a 560-hectare land allotment will be provided for the site. The eight pavilions will host the stands of Russia’s eight federal districts. In addition, one All-Russian pavilion will be created, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuivashev said in his interview to Voice of Russia radio station.

The 560-hectare allotment is located within 2.5km of the city center. The allotment needs transport and engineering infrastructure; about 10% of the site is now used by dacha owners, there is also an impromptu beach and a few buildings. According to the Governor, this is not a problem: nearly 90% of the site have already been reserved for the exhibition, which reduces the price of the project considerably.

‘All the buildings that are to be put up will certainly be used for a good cause. We are talking here about museums, concert halls, a training center, and an entertainment one. There will also be a magnificent embankment area with offices and EXPO hotels that will naturally serve as hotels later on. We have presented quite a few options to the BIE,’ the Governor explained.
