Jet Fuel Soil Contamination Detected in Sverdlovsk Region

March 11, 2013. Nizhniy Tagil’s public prosecution authorities for the environment and Sverdlovsk Region Natural Resources & Environment Ministry investigated a case of jet fuel soil contamination in the village of Pokrovskoye-1. Prigorodny District, Sverdlovsk Region, the press service for Sverdlovsk Region public prosecution authorities reports.
An inspection revealed that a lot of barrels with some cables and hoses attached to them were half-buried in the snow on the territory of about 30 hectares. No kerosene was being produced at the time of check. Experts took some samples of ice and snow that had obvious traces of oil products on them.
Following the inspection, the area of contaminated soil and the damage done to the environment are to be determined; also, measures will be taken to identify the persons responsible for dumping the jet fuel onto the soil. Finally, it will be decided what measures the public prosecution authorities must take, including the forwarding of the all the files to the investigative authorities, so that criminal proceedings could be instituted.
