November 7, 2012. Omsk Region’s Minister for Industrial Policies, Communications & Innovational Technologies Alexei A. Gladenko visited Transport Machine-Building Design Bureau. This was on the agenda of his business trip around Omsk’s most promising and dynamically developing enterprises, Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s press service reports.

The trip was targeted at looking at the enterprise’s potential and discussing issues related to technical conversion and attracting investment.

Alexei Gladenko was given a tour of all the departments at the design bureau and shown the plant’s primary projects. Following the presentation videos on the machinery the bureau produces, the minister asked questions about the human resources, which are one of the greatest problems in today’s defense sector.

‘We have mastered the technologies, we have got potential, but we don’t have enough skilled employees. We have some long-term contracts, which will keep us busy for the next three years at least, but we cannot be positive that we’ll have enough competent workers,’ says the bureau’s Director-General Igor Lobov.

The Minister suggested applying to the Education Ministry so that this department could take measures aimed at educating the badly-needed cadre; he also proposed restoring the vocational schools system.

The bureau’s Chief Designer Igor Shumakov pointed out the potential, popularity, and good quality of the machines produced by the company.

‘We haven’t received a single complaint against our vehicles over the last decade,’ he said.
