TMK Sets Up R&D Center in the U.S.

October 3, 2012. Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), one of the world’s largest OCTG producers, reports it has launched an R&D center in Houston, Texas, U.S.A., the company’s press service reports.

The opening ceremony was attended by TMK management and the American division of TMK IPSCO as well as the representatives of the State of Texas and Houston town council, the Russian Consul-General in Houston, TMK goods consumers from the energy sector, and the American local and national media representatives.

The attendees looked at the new center’s main divisions, including the SEM lab with its scanning electron microscope, the mechanical and collapse testing unit, the corrosion-resistance testing lab, and the unit with the equipment meant for testing threaded joints under various kinds of stress loads.

‘After we moved into a new building in January 2012, we have been building up on our testing equipment base: this will help us to make our research plans come true. We are happy to welcome our guests here and to demonstrate the results of investing in the most advanced technologies,’ TMK IPSCO Director for Technologies and the R&D center’s Vice President Prasenjit Adhikari.

The new, state-of-the art R&D center is now the main site for TMK’s US-based innovational projects, and it operates in coordination with the company’s Russian R&D center RosNITI based in Chelyabinsk. This R&D center is one of the key elements of the company’s long-term strategy aimed at improving its position on the O&G market.
