October 2, 2012. A reading of Efim Nisenbaum’s book called It’s All Over the Hill Now took place at Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s company museum. The book was published by the company to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the locally famous Nizhniy Tagil-based propaganda theater Torch and the 80th birthday of the theater founder and the book’s author, the corporation’s press service reports.
Efim Nisenbaum was the theater’s heart, its founder, its script writer, its director, and its actor, while Torch was a visible cultural event in the life of the enterprise and Nizhniy Tagil as well as the entire country. The cast took their topical satirical sketches to half of Soviet cities and had its performances broadcast on Channel 1.
Most of what is covered in the book was written by Efim Nisenbaum himself. The beautifully designed edition contains essays on real life experiences: the hardship-filled wartime childhood, work at Uralvagonzavod, the author’s travels and the activity around Torch. This is a book about people, whom the author describes with great interest, respect, and empathy. The book also contains a number of poems dedicated to friends and acquaintances, as well as stories about Efim Nisenbaum written by people he was close with.
A creative team of editors from Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s exhibition center, the company designers, and Nisenbaum’s friends and relatives all contributed to the book. Thanks to these people, this edition is complete with rich visual material and interesting archive photographs.
The reading took place in a warm, friendly atmosphere, since all those present knew Efim Nisenbaum in person and had a chance to work and be creative by his side.
