SinaraHybrid makes a show in Moscow

2 May 2012 (10:08)

Russian Railways Public Company’s Senior Vice President Valentin Gapanovitch presented the first Russian technologically innovative locomotive with an asynchronous traction drive called SinaraHybrid (TEM9N) at Rizhskiy Railway Station in Moscow, Russian Railways’ press service reports.

The presentation of the loco was made on the eve on the international conference on converging the technical regulation systems within the Round Table of Russia and the EU Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

The loco was designed by CTM Innovational Development Center (a member of Sinara Transport Machines Holding) with scientific and technical support from Russian Railways; this was part of the latter’s normative strategy for innovational development.

SinaraHybrid is an innovative four-axle loco with electric transmission with a variable alternating current individual drive to each wheel pair and a total capacity of 1,200 horsepower. It is equipped with lithium-ion batteries (accumulators) and super condensers. SinaraHybrid has increased specifications with regard to the environment and energy efficiency. Thanks to its hybrid transmission, its diesel fuel consumption will fall by 40% and exhaust emissions will be reduced to 55%, which corresponds to European standards adopted for the rolling stock of that class. All in all, over 20 innovative technical solutions not ever applied by Russian producers of locomotive were incorporated during the development of the SinaraHybrid.

The development batch of these locos will probably begin in 2013.
