City Council: EXPO 2020 to Give Yekaterinburg New Transportation Infrastructure

5 August 2011 (09:30)

Holding the World Exhibition EXPO 2020 in Yekaterinburg will mean the city’s transportation system and the social sphere will change entirely and its safety level will reach a dramatically new height, deputy head of the city council for strategic planning, economics, and finance Alexander Vysokinsky said in his interview to channel 41-Domashny’s Poslesloviye, the city council’s press service reports.

No such event has ever been held in Russia or even the entire former USSR. Yekaterinburg has already hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the Petersburg Dialog forum and therefore proved that its current infrastructure and organization are fit to host large-scale events,’ Vysokinsky observed.

The official emphasized that the world fair preparations would definitely involve considering putting up a second underground line.

In addition, this would also involve renovation of the city’s entire transportation frame, replacing all the public transport vehicles with new ones, some serious improvements in the field of public safety, and social improvements, since the local healthcare services might have to deal with a lot of patients if necessary.
