Toyota dealer’s sales manager accused of fraud

1 March 2010 (10:52)

Yekaterinburg’s public prosecution authorities instituted criminal proceedings against a 29-year-old manager of Toyota’s local car center. The man is accused of fraud in accordance with Article 159 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code.

According to the spokesperson for the authorities, it is suspected that in August-October 2008 the manager hijacked some automobiles from the storehouse under the pretext of doing a test drive with customers. Allegedly, the cars (with all the necessary papers) were later sold to private individuals, who believed they were actually making an official and legal purchase. The money thus obtained was not handed over to the car center, however; instead, the manager just pocketed it.

Six cars worth over 7 million RUR were stolen altogether.

The accused is now kept in detention. After the public prosecution authorities completed their bill of indictment, the case was placed with Yekaterinburg’s Chkalovskiy district court.
