Rostechnadzor might take VIZ Stal to court

2 April 2008 (08:07)

Nikolai Krupinin, Deputy Head of Ural Federal District’s division of Rostechnadzor (the state environmental, technological, and nuclear safety watchdog) chaired a meeting on the results of checking VIZ Stal’s compliance with the existing conservational and environmental regulations. The enterprise was inspected in this respect between February 11, 2008 and March 6, 2008, the spokesperson for Ural Federal District’s division of Rostechnadzor says.

It was revealed in the course of the inspection that the enterprise was guilty of some grave environmental offenses, therefore VIZ Stal was ordered to draw up a conservational program with a clear budget and financial sources and to have it approved of by Rostechnadzor. Then, since VIZ Stal is located in the vicinity of a pond, it is to have its waste management policy audited and the company’s employees are to undergo environmental safety training. In case the enterprise fails to meet these demands prior to the deadline, Ural Federal District’s division of Rostechnadzor will have to take the case to court, demanding that the company should be closed down at least temporarily.

VIZ Stal is part of Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Works.
