Russia’s Best Plays festival began in Yekaterinburg on November 30, 2006; the event is conducted by the Golden Mask National Theatre Prize and sponsored by Sberbank of Russia.

People living in Yekaterinburg will be able to see 10 plays presented by the theatres from Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Omsk, Abakan, and Vilnyus: all of them became winners and laureates of the Golden Mask Prize.

‘This event was made possible largely due to Sberbank of Russia, our general sponsor. The bank has been doing a great deal for the cultural development of this country. This year, Sberbank is going to celebrate its 165th anniversary, and we wish it prosperity, financial stability, and more clients,’ says Maria Revyakina, the general director of the festival.

This is the second time that the festival is held in Yekaterinburg. In 2003, thanks to the help of Sberbank of Russia, the Golden Mask festival presented the best plays of Saint Petersburg theatres to the local residents. The plays were also shown in Chelyabinsk in 2005.
