One of the most beautiful temples of pre-revolutionary Yekaterinburg – The Holy Ghost Descending Temple (aka ‘Khrysostomos the Large’) – is going to be rebuilt at the site of the original temple at the crossing of Malyshev St. and Eighth of March St.

The rebuilding was initiated by Yekaterinburg Diocese of Russian Orthodox Church, the city administration, Russian Copper Company and Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company. The project is funded by the leading Ural copper producers. According the architects’ idea, the new temple is to be a replica of the original one as it could be found in the same location 169 years ago.

The grand ceremony of laying the foundation-stone was enacted at 12 AM on October 14, 2006. The ceremony was to be attended by His High Grace Vikentiy, Archbishop of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, Eduard Rossel, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region, Alexey Vorobyov, Prime Minister of Sverdlovsk Region Government, Arkadiy Chernetsky, Mayor of Yekaterinburg, and by Russian Copper Company and Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company top management representatives.

‘Russian Copper Company is honored to take its part in restoration of Khrysostomos the Large, as we see it as our essential aim to assist the spiritual renascence of Russian society. Of course, we would try to secure the national patrimony from all periods of our history. We respect the efforts of the people who sacrificed their life to setting up a socialist society of freedom and equal rights despite the fact that this plan proved its historical caducity. Therefore, the monument to Ivan Malyshev, the revolutionary occupying the temple location, should not be destroyed. Rather, it should be moved to some other public place and reinstalled there,’ said Vice President of Russian Copper Company CJSC Dmitry Saburov. The information was reported by PR-department of Russian Copper Company CJSC.
