Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil assembles new turbine compressor

19 July 2006 (13:56)

No. 10 turbine compressor is going to be put into operation at the heat and power plant of Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil JSC (part of Evraz Group). The assembling has by now been fully completed; the company’s technicians are through with the balancing and commissioning and are now busy testing the equipment, which is estimated to take about one and a half months. The new turbine compressor was created for No. 5 blast furnace currently under construction. The compressor will provide the furnace with compressed air needed for melting.

The machine is fully automated; its design is the same as that of the No. 11 turbine compressor that provides No. 6 blast furnace with compressed air. The introduction of another compressor makes the operation of all of the company’s devices more coordinated and reliable.

The compressor and No. 5 blast furnace will have been launched by fall. The furnace is predicted to produce 1.7 million tons of high quality vanadium-enriched iron annually, the company’s spokesperson says.
