MMK Sets Home Market Sales Record

7 February 2020 (09:18)

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, February 7, 2020. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) supplied more than 9,700,000,000 kg of rolled metal goods to customers on the home market (including the CIS member states) in 2019. This is the largest figure in the company’s entire post-Soviet history, MMK’s Information & PR Department reports.

The last time a home market sales record was set was in 2014, when the figure was 9,588,000,000 kg.

‘MMK has been raising its Russian and CIS sales for the last twenty-five years now. In 1996-1999, up to two-thirds of sales were to foreign customers, but the trend changed in the mid-aughts when over a half of all products went to customers on the home market (including the CIS member states). Starting from 2010, the company’s share of home market sales only kept growing, with 88.5% of all sales being import ones and only 11.5% export ones in 2019,’ the company says.

MMK is Russia’s leading metal goods supplier on the home market thanks to both making a wide range of popular rolled metal goods varieties and to its member enterprises being strategically located next to the largest metal-consuming enterprises in Russia and the CIS. In local terms, the nearby markets, where the company has a logistical advantage (the Urals, the Volga, and Siberia), are MMK’s most important markets. 64% of MMK’s domestic sales are to customers operating in these parts of the country. About 15% of sales are to customers in the CIS member states.
