UrBC, Yekaterinburg, January 20, 2020. A new terminal might open at Yekaterinburg’s Koltsovo International Airport, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuivashev said at a press conference in Yekaterinburg.

According to Governor Kuivashev, the airport needs reconstructing: the place was only big enough to service a million passengers a year back in 2010 and grew large enough to fit 8 million fliers by 2019; in 2030, the annual passenger traffic might reach as many as 16 million people.

The Governor said the reconstruction would be handled by the airport owner, Airpots of Regions Group.

‘The rebuilding jobs need to get completed in time for the Universiade 2023, so that the airport could host up to 16 million people. We are, however, considering the option of putting up yet another terminal facing a new direction. Airpots of Regions is working on several versions of the project,’ the Governor said.
