UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 3, 2019. Rosatom/TVEL’s Novouralsk-based member enterprise Ural Electrochemical Combine launched a steeplejack practice range with all the safety appliances and harnesses in place, the company’s press service reports.

The project (the range itself plus the assembly and installation) cost around RUB 1m to implement.

‘The introduction of a practice range minimizes the company’s industrial safety and job safety-related risks of steeplejack jobs considerably. Our employees can now complement their theoretical training with practice,’ says the combine’s Job Safety Director Evgeny Martyushev.

There are currently 400 people working for the company whose duties involve steeplejack operations. They will use the practice range to do drills in very realistically simulated conditions. The range makes it possible to model working on a horizontal surface within a limited space; going up and down between levels; working with stationary anchor lines and movable lanyard anchor points located over one’s head, on walls, and at foot level; and operating in rescue situations.
