UrBC, Magnitogorsk, June 24, 2019. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) shipped 181,070,000 kg of rolled section steel items to customers in May 2019; this has been the largest monthly shipment since the plant’s rolled section steel department got launched.

According to MMK’s Information, PR & Advertising Department, the previous record (172,000,000 kg of rolled section steel shipped to customers in the course of one month) was set in July 2015.

‘The plant’s rolled section steel department is currently working at its full capacity; MMK made around 1,800,000,000 kg last year, with 98% of the produce going to customers in Russia and the CIS member states. The plant intends to intensify its profits through cutting down on the share of standard steel produce and building up on the share of the higher-profit-margin rolled section steel; at the moment, the share of the latter items comes to 30% of everything made at the plant,’ the department says.

Three up-to-date, fully automated mills by the Italian company Danieli got launched at the department in 2005 and 2006; their overall capacity comes to more than 2,000,000,000 kg of rolled section steel a year, which means MMK could afford to shut down and dismantle its four old mills. The new mills were the first ones to have been built within the former USSR in the post-Soviet era. More than 20,000,000,000 kg of rolled section steel items have been made at the plant since the new mills got launched.
