MegaFon’s Customers Download 30% More Traffic in 2019
3 June 2019 (09:29)
UrBC, Moscow, June 3, 2019. Every MegaFon subscriber used 10.7 Gb of online traffic in the first quarter of 2019 on average, which exceeded the figures for one year earlier by 27.6%, the telecom company’s press service refers to their financial/performance report for the first three months of the year 2019 as stating.
The increase in traffic had to do with the users’ growing interest in Internet services. MegaFon’s recently updated payment plans, upgrades of popular options, marketing campaigns (‘Buy one Samsung smartphone and get one free’), Gigateka, and other data transfer-related special offers all contributed to the growing online traffic and more revenues for the company.
‘Revenues stemming from various digital services, including the extra options, convergent services, IT services, Safe City, and Smart City, are increasingly gaining weight as a very significant growth factor for MegaFon. This is, in fact, part of the company’s digital strategy. As a result, our digital services-related revenues rose by 50.3% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with the first quarter of 2018,’ the press service says.
MegaFon’s overall revenues increased by 4.8% in Q1’19 against Q1’18 and amounted to RUB 80.1 billion. The company’s service-related revenues rose by 2.7% and amounted to RUB 72.8 billion, mostly thanks to a surge in profits from mobile data transfer (up 8.1%, RUB 25.1 billion all in all). This means that at the moment, revenues stemming from the mobile data transfer service remain the primary driving force behind the company’s profit growth on the annual scale.
Revenues stemming from selling electronic equipment and accessories went up by 31% in the first quarter of 2019 compared with one year earlier and amounted to RUB 7.362 billion. The increase was due to the retail chain operation improvements as well as due to the rising sales of new Samsung and Apple smartphone makes.
