Magnitogorsk Unearths 1968 Time Capsule

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, October 30, 2018. A time capsule placed by employees of Magnitogorsk Metal Goods/Metallurgical Plant (MMK METIZ) fifty years ago got unearthed in Magnitogorsk, Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works’ press service reports.
The time capsule contained a message from Komsomol members who worked at Magnitogorsk Metal Goods/Metallurgical Plant at the time, addressed to the future generations. Komsomol got established exactly fifty years prior to 1968, and 103 people got invited to the official unearthing ceremony in celebration of the organization’s 100th anniversary over the following fifty years.
Fifty years later, the solemn ceremony took place in MMK METIZ main square. Magnitogorsk’s honorary citizen Anatoly Makeyev was there on that day. Makeyev was 27 years old in 1968 and was among those who actually wrote the time capsule message and placed the capsule into the ground.
‘We truly wanted every next generation to be a bit more productive than we were and to suffer a bit less than we did,’ he said.
Chair of MMK METIZ Youth Council Vassily Komlev read the message out loud.
At the end of the ceremony, the time capsule and the message within got handed over to MMK METIZ Museum.
