28 April 2018 (13:19)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, April 28, 2018. EVRAZ Holding Nizhniy Tagil Integrated Metallurgical Works (NTMK) recently held a series of professional skills contests. Over two hundred employees competed for Best Young Worker Award, the company press service says.

The contests were coordinated among repair technicians, crane operators, truck drivers, turners, assistant locomotive drivers, and rollers. Also, a contest was held among steel-smelting operators for the first time this year. The contestants had to deal with a series of tests first and do a practical task next.

For one, rollers had to reprogram their equipment from one kind of produce to another. Repair technicians had to use a drawing to rebuild a ball bearing joint and to operate a number of up-to-date appliances. Crane operators had to transfer a wheel along a complicated trajectory through a man-made maze and then to place the wheel onto a metal stand. Truck drivers had eight different tasks, including driving backwards in zigzags, parallel parking, and rut driving. Turners had to make a non-standard support axis, and assistant loco operators had to identify the problem in a faulty loco. Steel-smelters had to operate a continuos-casting machine and obtain a steel sample for chemical tests.
