Urals’ Residents Among Top MegaFon Card Users

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 23, 2017. Ural Federal District proved one of Russia’s three top constituencies where cashless payments are used the most, MegaFon’s press service reports.

The Urals, Moscow/Moscow Region, and Russia’s North West are the three territories that rely most heavily on MegaFon’s bank card, using it to pay at supermarkets and restaurants as well as for financial services.

The card is also used to pay at medical clinics, gas stations, and entertainment venues as well as to pay for the taxi, buy clothes, accessories, and household items, and to pay one’s phone and Internet bills.

The card tends to be used least often to pay for sports and children’s products and to direct money to charity.

In the summertime, cardholders tend to spend more on transport and travel, which includes tickets, travel agents’ fees, guided tours, and so on. Customers based in Ural Federal District spent 50% on these services in April and May than in the earlier months. This increase in spending is greater than anywhere else in the country.

‘MegaFon’s bank card makes our subscribers’ life easier, so the demand for this product rose tenfold in the last seven months alone. The card allows a holder to merge all accounts and use their smartphone as a wallet and get interest and cash back (1,500 RUR on average); every one in ten MegaFon card users is reported to use these options,’ says MegaFon Ural Mass Market Business Development Director Sergey Alferov.
