UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, March 23, 2017. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) decided to have its CC Machine 6 and heavy-plate Mill 5000 upgraded in order to start making hot-rolled pieces from 350-mm-thick slabs.
‘The upgrades will allow MMK to expand its product range with new, high-margin goods, raise productivity through increased slab mass, and increase the output of hot-rolled pieces meant for mass production,’ MMK says.
All the jobs, including modifications and assembly as well as start-up and commissioning, are expected to have been finished by the end of the year.
CC machine 6 is currently used to make 190-mm, 250-mm, and 300-mm-thick slabs; the goal is to master the production of 350-mm-thick slabs as well. The teeming parameters remain within the L2,700 mm range.
