29 January 2020 (09:11)
UrBC, Magnitogorsk, January 29, 2020. 1,168,400,000 kg of hot-rolled metal goods came from heavy-plate Mill 5000 at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) last year; this has been the best year’s output figure so far, MMK’s Information & PR Department reports.
‘The last time an output record was broken was back in 2010, when the mill produced 1,160,500,000 kg of rolled goods. MMK’s heavy-plate Mill 5000 got launched in 2009, with President Vladimir Putin attending the opening ceremony and commenting very appreciatively on one of MMK’s largest post-Soviet era investment projects. The mill mostly makes produce for the Russian oil and gas sector and is now Europe’s most productive heavy-plate mill at the moment. The mill facility comprises a unique (and the world’s most powerful) roll mill stand (max. rolling force: around 12,000,000 kg),’ the company says.
Mill 5000 (capacity: 1,500,000,000 kg of rolled metal goods a year) is MMK’s key facility for making heavy plates, complemented by a secondary treatment unit and CC Machine 6. The mill is meant for making highly cost-effective heavy plates (width: up to 4,850 mm; strength grade: up to X120). The unit, which was built in accordance with the most advanced global machine-building technologies, works at full capacity and makes good quality, competitive produce that is used in the national O&G industry’s largest infrastructure projects, for building various types of ships, in the bridge-building sector, and in other industries.
