EVRAZ Rails Withstand 1,000,000,000,000 kg of Cargo

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 27, 2017. R65-DT350 rails made at EVRAZ Holding’s West-Siberian Integrated Metallurgical Works (ZSMK) proved to withstand the overall workload of 1,000,000,000,000 kg at the All-Russian Railway Research Institute (VNIIZhT) test ring railroad, the company press service reports.
The trial runs were carried out in compliance with the GOST standard requirements to prove the rails’ reliability. As a matter of fact, based on the Transport Ministry’s rules, the sufficient test-run tonnage for R65-DT350 rails comes to 750,000,000,000 kg, with 85% failure-free performance rate.
‘The pilot batch of EVRAZ rails handled the required tonnage with not a single failure due to defects. The same proved true for the 1,000,000,000,000-kg workload. The tests will continue until 20% of rails have been proven to reveal metallurgical defects, whereupon it will be clear for how long these rails can ensure an 80% failure-free performance rate (their normative life cycle, that is),’ the press service says.
