EVRAZ Yerunakovskaya 8 Mine Starts New Long Face
7 March 2017 (12:26)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 7, 2017. Miners from EVRAZ Holding’s Yerunakovskaya 8 Mine started extracting coal from the new long face 48-5, EVRAZ Holding Siberia’s press office reports.
The coal reserves there are estimated at 3,000,000,000 kg of valuable GZH coal and are expected to get fully extracted by the second quarter of 2018.
‘Getting long face 48-5 ready for work was a bit hard, since there were so many harmful gases in this mine layer. Thanks to all the thorough and timely degassing procedures, however, the mine was prepared in time, with stoping teams working through some 15 km of rock mass. Highly productive boring units made by the German company Deilmann-Haniel were used for the jobs for the first time at this mine. We also relied on Joy Bolter Miner multi-purpose machines to ensure speedy passage despite the challenging geological conditions,’ the press office says.
48-5 has all the necessary up-to-date mining equipment and air and gas control units. The harmful methane gets filtered through a special gas-suction system on top of Layer 48. An additional 1.5-kilometer-long belt conveyor was introduced under the ground to transport coal.
Coal is extracted at -470 meters below the ground at Yerunakovskaya 8 Mine. Layer 48 is estimated to be 2.2 meters thick. Once the coal has been processed at EVRAZ plants, the coal concentrate will get delivered onto metallrugical and coke-chemical enterprises in Russia and abroad.
