EVRAZ NTMK Upgrades Foundry Department

28 February 2017 (13:03)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 28, 2017. EVRAZ Holding’s Nizhniy Tagil Integrated Metallurgical Works (NTMK) had its foundry department retooled and upgraded, EVRAZ Holding Ural’s press office reports.

The new equipment installed at the department will result in a 10% drop in natural gas consumption and a 6% drop in metal spending.

‘The department operates under a new scheme now, with a preparatory section with an up-to-date semi-automatic belt saw and an upgraded boring machine for making center holes. It now takes just one operator to supervise the process. The operator’s job is to load the rolled metal onto the mill, program the machine settings and then put the ready part in storage. There’s also a new crane at the department, designed by our plant’s Central Lab engineers. As a result, the company expects to save 2m RUR a year,’ the press office says.

The foundry department makes over 1,000 different kinds of semi-finished parts for EVRAZ NTMK’s blast furnace, converter, and rolling divisions.
