Sverdlovsk Region: 40% of Food Items Are Local
30 January 2017 (15:09)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, January 30, 2017. 30% to 40% of food items on sale at Sverdlovsk Region supermarkets and grocery stores come from local producers, Deputy Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Alexander Vysokinsky said at Sverdlovsk Region Union of Industrialists & Entrepreneurs’ recent meeting.
Vysokinsky feels the relatively small share of local goods on the market is one of Sverdlovsk Region’s key problems.
‘The Mid-Urals’ trade turnover amounts to over 1 trillion RUR. We spend 10bn RUR buying building materials, for example, and only 5% to 7% of these are actually made in Sverdlovsk Region. 20bn RUR get spent on footwear, and only 2% of these items are made locally. 50bn RUR are spent on clothing items, only 5% to 7% of which are made in the Mid-Urals. As for food items, the share of local produce only comes to 30% to 40%,’ he said.
According to the official, local companies have nearly lost their home market’s share by now.
