MegaFon Maintains Connection Quality Despite Frost
28 December 2016 (16:02)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, December 28, 2016. The telecommunications provider MegaFon managed to maintain running infrastructure despite the recent anomalously cold weather (forty degrees centigrade below zero) in the Urals, the company’s press service reports.
Wednesday, December 21, proved the coldest day of the week, with outside temperature dropping below forty-two degrees centigrade below zero in certain locations in the Greater Urals. Still, MegaFon’s mobile connection quality remained very high, with the connection itself available in 99.9% of cases (which is even better than the 95% required by the telecommunications watchdog Roskomnxdzor).
‘Despite the cruel weather conditions, our subscribers could always stay connected thanks to our simple rules: timely repairs and network expansion in summertime. This year, we carried out 1.5 times more repair and expansion procedures than last year. We keep checking the power connection, get accumulators replaced when necessary, and upgrade software at base stations throughout the area. This means our subscribers can enjoy the highest quality connection 24/7,’ says MegaFon Ural Infrastructure Director Anton Scherbakov.
It is reported that extremely cold weather is actually not the most common cause of accidents. Typically, problems occur when fiber optic carriers get broken by construction companies or during large-scale power cuts.
