Ural Vagon Zavod launches own equipment

22 January 2016 (09:11)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, January 22, 2016. A new cast-cooling unit underwent start-up and commissioning procedures and was launched at Ural Vagon Zavod Corporation’s head plant’s Foundry Department 1 recently. The unit relies on the new technology where the castings and the sand blend are shaken out and cooled simultaneously.

The company press service reports the unit was made right at the plant’s production departments and will be used for cooling the casting stuffs that need to be filtered from sand.

‘This equipment took six months to make. We relied on the experience of using the previous make for over two decades and made some adjustments which increase the unit’s lifespan. Virtually none of the blend sand will go to waste now; besides, the new equipment is more worker- and environmentally friendly. Moreover, fewer idle times will mean greater productivity,’ the press service says.

The entire piece weighs 60,000 kg, the shake-out unit weighs 32,000 kg, which means the equipment was somewhat difficult to assemble. However, everything was done on schedule by workers from the head plant’s Technological Equipment Repairs, Mechanical Repairs, and Foundry Departments. In fact, dismantling the obsolete equipment was the hardest part.

Another such unit is expected to replace the rest of the obsolete machinery at Foundry Department 1 soon.
