Central Stadium to become Yekaterinburg Arena by 2018
9 October 2015 (09:18)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 9, 2015. Central Stadium will be renamed Yekaterinburg Arena in time for the world football championship of 2018, Interfax refers to Russia 2018 Committee as saying.
12 stadiums in different parts of Russia will host the World Cup games; eight of them will be renamed after the cities they are located in. The new names of the remaining four stadiums will have to do with important local cultural or football events.
Russia’s Sports Ministry suggested earlier that Central Stadium should be called the Urals. However, the championship committee decided against this proposal because of the linguistic difficulties involved.
