Sverdlovsk Region: 35% of furniture sold illegitimately

25 May 2015 (09:21)

May 25, 2015. Sverdlovsk Region division of Rospotrebadzor (the state consumer rights watchdog) examined 226 items of furniture sold locally. It was determined that 81 items (35.8% of the total amount) were not sold properly in terms of trading legislation, the division’s press service reports.

Mainly, trading regulations were violated in that no documents could be provided to prove that the item on sale met all the standards; in some cases, furniture items were sold without labels, without price tags, and without any necessary and accurate information. Besides, sellers’ purchase and sale agreements contained clauses which infringed upon the consumers’ legal rights; some of them provided inaccurate and misleading data on the manufacturer’s contact and payment details.

Officials and legal entities responsible for the offenses had to face administrative liability; orders were issued requiring that no more violation of consumers’ rights take place in future.
