April 1, 2015. This April, ChTZ Uraltrac (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) is going to make and deliver to its customers six bulldozers which will be named after the prominent Urals-based home front workers who contributed greatly to the development of the defense industry during war times.

According to Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s press service, the bulldozers will bear the names of Soviet statesmen who were involved in the Southern Urals’ tank-making industry.

‘Head of the Communist Party Chelyabinsk Region Committee, who took part in the development of the area’s industrial infrastructure, was made Hero of Socialist Labor twice, one of the two people who had eleven Orders of Lenin Nikolay Patolichev and Hero of Socialist Labor Vyacheslav Malyshev are going to be among these six people to give their names to a bulldozer. The latter worked on the development of the tank-making industry and serial production of military vehicles in the Urals, particularly in Chelyabinsk, where he chaired the People’s Comissariat for Tank Industry,’ the press service says.

The other tractors will be named after the workers of Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant (as ChTZ was known at the time), including the plant director, Hero of Socialist Labor, State Prize winner Isaac Salzmann, who set up and coordinated large-scale production of tanks, SP guns, and other military vehicles.
The three remaining tanks will commemorate the names of Nikolai Dukhov, Joseph Kotin, and Ivan Trashchutin. Nikolai Dukhov was declared Hero of Socialist Labor thrice, was winner of Lenin and five State Prizes, and supervised the development and serial production of 13 different makes of tanks and SP guns ranging from KV 1S to IS 3 to ISU 152. Hero of Socialist Labor and winner of four State Prizes Joseph Kotin contributed to the development of eighteen makes of tanks and SP guns. He worked as Deputy People’s Commissar for Tank Industry until the end of the war and ran the plant’s experimental department where new armored vehicles got tested. Ivan ‘Diesel’ Trashchutin, who was declared Hero of Socialist Labor twice, was an outstanding designer and motor manufacturer who founded an engine technology research school in Chelyabinsk.
