December 11, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Corporation allocated around 5m RUR to repairing the gym at Volchansk School 23, since the corporation’s head plant’s Volchansk subsidiary has been the school sponsor for some years now.

The gym was fully rebuilt in three and a half months: the place now has new floors, new heating, lighting, and ventilation equipment, modern windows, freshly painted walls, remodeled locker rooms, showers, and restrooms. Besides, new sports equipment was bought, including basketball backboards and balls,’ the corporation says.

According to Mayor of Volchansk Alexander Vervein, Uralvagonzavod’s contribution is particularly valuable for a small northern town like theirs, with the population of some 10,000 people. He also said this was an important thing for the town’s social infrastructure.

The school director Svetlana Snigireva thanked the corporation’s Director-General Oleg Sienko and said that Volchansk’s younger residents were given a great New Year’s gift.

In addition to school students, the school gym also hosts quite a few children’s sports clubs. For example, an international master of sports and European boxing champion 2014, the seventeen-year-old Elizaveta Nemtseva, trains there.
