Yekaterinburg resident faces up to two years in prison for non-payment of loan

August 4, 2014. A Yekaterinburg local is facing up to two years in prison for deliberately avoiding to pay back a loan that comes to over 2m RUR. Court officers instituted criminal proceedings against the man based on Article 177 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code, Sverdlovsk Region division of the Federal Service of Court Officers’ press service reports.

According to the ruling of Yekaterinburg Zheleznodorozhny District Court, the man named B. had to pay 2.3m RUR to a private individual. The court officer instituted enforcement proceedings against the debtor, the man was duly informed of this and explained what his rights and obligations were, he was also warned as to criminal liability for non-payment. Despite all this, the non-payer concealed one of his settlement accounts and managed to hide over 3m RUR via this account, even though this money could be used for paying back his debts. The account has been seized by now, yet there is no more money in it.

This is why criminal action was taken against B. and investigation began. The maximum sentence one can get based on this charges is a two-year prison term.
