July 3, 2014. Starting from July 1, 2014, 26 locomotive maintenance depots formerly run by Russian Railways were handed over to the management of STM-Service (a member enterprise of Sinara Transport Machines Holding), the holding’s PR Department reports.
Under the contract the company has signed with Russian Railways, STM-Service is now offering full-cycle maintenance services to about 5,000 locomotives (8,200 sections) of various series ranging from freight mainline AC and DC locos to freight diesel-locomotive shunters and mainline locomotives to electric and diesel passenger locos.
STM-Service is now completing the procedure of taking on the staff teams of loco O&M depots located in Sverdlovsk Railways, West-Siberian Railways, South-Ural Railways, Kyibyshev Railways, and Moscow Railways. All the workers who are being newly hired by STM-Service will retain their social benefits packages they had at Russian Railways. The total number of employees working for STM-Service will thus come to over 12,000 people.
Now Russian Railways coordinated an open-entry auction in April 2014 in order to implement its strategy for the development of its locomotive maintenance services. STM-Service outstripped its rivals in three lots, and the loco maintenance contract was signed by Russian Railways and STM-Service on April 30, 2014.
