May 27, 2014. 25,761 new passenger and light commercial vehicles were sold in Yekaterinburg in January-April 2014, which was 13%, or 3,770 cars less than in January-April 2013, Auto-Dealer-Yekaterinburg reports.

In April, car sales declined by 23% compared with April 2013 and amounted to 6,343 automobiles. The only brand in the top ten selling ones whose sales actually improved was Nissan, which is still the best selling foreign car in Yekaterinburg. The Japanese brand remains popular thanks to new makes and the beloved Nissan Almera.

Lada remains No. 1 brand on Yekaterinburg car market; Hyundai is no longer among the top three; it is now in the 5th place and is outstripped by Toyota and KIA.

‘Such a drop in sales in the course of one month has had no precedent in Yekaterinburg so far. Whereas the weakening of the ruble actually boosted the sales of some car brands at the beginning of the year, now, when most brands have finally grown more expensive, the devaluation of the ruble is affecting the whole market situation badly,’ says Director of Auto-Dealer-Yekaterinburg Mikhail Chaplygin.
