Car sales drop 19% in Yekaterinburg

October 29, 2014. 56,833 new passenger and commercial vehicles were sold in Yekaterinburg between January and September 2014, which is 19% (13,224 units) less than in the three quarters of 2013, Auto Dealer Yekaterinburg reports.

The agency says sales dropped by over a quarter in September. This time, the decrease stood at 26%: 6,235 automobiles were purchased in Yekaterinburg (2,240 cars fewer than in September 2013). Renault was the only brand among the top ten best-selling makes whose sales actually improved last month.

‘September is typically a successful month for Yekaterinburg’s car market, but this year, more cars were sold between February and June. The car recycling program does not seem to be helping the local car market, its late start being one of the reasons for this,’ says Director of Auto Dealer Yekaterinburg Mikhail Chaplygin.

On the whole, sales in the third quarter sagged by 27% compared with July-September 2013. Fewer and fewer brands among the top ten best-selling ones manage to keep improving their sales throughout the year: between January and June, three top-selling brands still got their sales growing, whereas between January and September, only two brands did so.
