January 15, 2014. Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation is now completing the launch of the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS). Over 10m RUR were allocated for the implementation of this project, the holding's press service reports.

'Russian Register, a certification body, has already conducted the first certification stage of Uralvagonzavod's business management system. At this stage, it is checked whether the company is ready to have its business management system certified against a dozen 'knock-out questions' - the answers can only be in the affirmative. Having completed this audit, Russian Register confirmed that Uralvagonzavod was ready for the second certification stage that is scheduled for late January 2014,' the message states.

The launch of IRIS began in 2011 and comprised several stages such as the design and administration of the necessary documents, training personnel on meeting the IRIS requirements, and getting ready for the certification itself.

Since 2011, 48 normative papers for the business management system have been created at Uralvagonzavod that meet the requirements set out in the IRIS standard; these requirements are currently being launched. Besides, 18 more normative papers for the company's quality management system were edited and improved.

46 employees, including personnel managers, economists, the Finance Department employees, designers, and quality management system & certification experts, were trained on the IRIS standards in 2011 and 2012. 21 of these employees were upper-level managers. The training took place at Uralvagonzavod's Personnel Training Center both in Yekaterinburg and in Moscow. In the latter case, the seminars were given by Bernard Kauffmann, IRIS General Manager. What is more, seminars were conducted for the employees involved in the carriage-making sector within the framework of School for Quality last year. This training was given to 151 experts from 60 different divisions of the enterprise.
