Bank Koltso Urala: New 100-dollar bills to arrive in Russia only in winter

9 October 2013 (09:35)

October 9, 2013. The Unites States Federal Reserve system put a new one hundred dollar bill into circulation on October 8. The new banknote has extra protection features such as the 3D blue protective stripe that is woven into the paper rather than just printed on it. When you turn the bill sideways, the bells drawn on the bill change into the number 100, Bank Koltso Urala's press service says.

So, the bill is fitted with one more protective thread, additional water marks, and a microseal. Some of the images on the banknote change colors when looked at under a different angle: the bell in the ink stand to the right of the portrait of Benjamin Franklin changes from copper to green shades.

Russian banks expect to receive the new 100-dollar bills only in the winter.

'Unlike the new 5-euro banknotes, which hit Russia very quickly, that is, within a month's time, the new colored dollar bills have always taken at least half a year to reach the country. This is why Russia shouldn't expect the arrival of the new 100-dollar bills put into circulation in the States on October 8 any time sooner than in the coming winter,' says Bank Koltso Urala's Cash Transactions & Currency Circulation Director Olga Fatykhova.
