June 7, 2013. Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) took part in the international metallurgical forum on Russian steel industry and its global market. Russian Steel, a non-commercial partnership that unites the country’s largest metallurgical produce manufacturers, acted as the conference’s general partner and Metally Evraziyi magazine was the conference organizer, with some support from Russia’s Industry & Trade Ministry, TMK press service reports.
TMK Chairman and Russian Steel Chairman of the Supervisory Board Dmitri Pumpyansky opened the forum with his welcoming address. He pointed out the importance of having such yearly summits in order to discuss the current situation in the industry and to analyze the trends on the domestic and global metal goods market. During the forum, metallurgical business representatives, as well as the leading international analysts and experts have an opportunity to share their ideas on the most pressing issues that the Russian metallurgical industry faces because of the new global challenges.
This year’s forum’s agenda dwelled on the changes in the industry relating to Russian companies entering the transnational markets and relating to Russia entering the WTO. During the discussion at the session dedicated to the steel industry in the grip of the recession and to looking for new development reserves, TMK BOD Member and Chairman of Russian Steel Management Board Sergey Papin presented a report on the current state of affairs in the Russian metallurgical industry. According to his forecast, metal consumption is expected to go up by 2.4%, up to 43m tons, this year. At the same time, competition will probably grow more fierce, some anti-dumping investigations are expected, and steel export and raw materials consumption are supposed to decline. It is also likely that the presence of Ukrainian, Kazakh, and Chinese produce will be felt more keenly on the Russian market.
