December 28, 2012. Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s head plant made its 120,000th car axle, which is a record for both the Nizhniy Tagil-based enterprise and the entire railway carriage-making industry. No other company either in Russia or abroad is capable of producing 30,000 car sets of axles a year. To celebrate this achievement, a solemn meeting took place at the plant’s department, the corporation’s press service reports.

The standard production capacity of other such manufacturing lines comes to about 48,000 axles a year. Uralvagonzavod’s automatic line, which is 800 meters long and which is responsible for the final mechanical treatment of the rough axles, is quite unique. It has been used by the company for a while now, but it was only in 2012 when it reached such impressive outputs. The line currently makes 360 to 400 ready axles a day: this amounts to 90 to 100 car sets.

As a matter of fact, 120,000 car axles is just the batch production. In addition to this, the plant also makes reinforced axles. By the end of the year, about 4,000 such axles are expected to be produced, which will make Uralvagonzavod’s production record even more breath-taking.
