December 20, 2012. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) mastered the production of hot-dip galvanized rolled metal products whose surface quality meets the standards of Type C (the highest class there is), MMK reports.
The company expects to start supplying its key customers with this steel after the product has been approved and the supplier status has been granted to the enterprise. The sales are expected to start in 2013.
Next year, MMK intends to start producing its pilot batches of hot-dip galvanized rolled metal goods pertaining to Type C for such major carmakers as Renault, Ford, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and some others.
In July, MMK completed the second stage of its project on the construction of a cold-roll facility with the capacity of 2m tons of goods a year; this facility’s produce is mainly meant for the car manufacturers as well as for the white goods producers and the building industry.
The technological equipment of this cold-roll facility comprises a continuous hydrochloric acid etching line combined with a 5-section cold-roll mill capable of making 2,100 tons of goods a year as well as a continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit with the capacity of 450,000 tons of goods a year; it also comprises an integrated continuous annealing/ hot-dip galvanizing unit with the capacity of 650,000 tons a year, a roll-grinding machine, a strip-slitting unit, and the packaging lines for the processing of cold-rolled hammer-hardened and zinc-coated rolls.
