Yekaterinburg EXPO Builders Go On Strike Today
21 May 2012 (09:31)
The builders working on the international exhibition center Yekaterinburg EXPO are going to hold a picket today and to insist on getting paid, a representative of the initiative group and the director of one of the developing companies Alexei Sadovsky told UrBC.
The developers that were involved in the construction of the exhibition center have been unable to get the money for their work from the region’s authorities for a year now.
The picket will start in Oktyabrskaya Square next to the Government Building at 3:00 PM.
‘We are going to remind the public of our problem. We’ll enter the square with the demand to give us our money back and let us trust our authorities again. It was the government who acted as the customer, so the things that happened destroy our trust in it. We expect to see about 150 people at the picket. This is not too many, but we do not intend to organize a large-scale event just yet. Finding a thousand people is not a problem: there are plenty of people employed by our companies. But this is not what we want for the time being,’ Sadovsky said.
‘As a matter of fact, we had planned to have the picket as early as one week ago, but the authorities promises to make some sort of decision within a week. However, nothing happened so far. We have been trying to get our money back for a year now, and we never heard anything but promises. Yet things appear to be changing at the moment. As far as I know, Chairman of Sverdlovsk Region Government Vladimir Vlasov is now working on this issue. Still, these are just promises at the moment,’ he added.
